From PMS to Postpartum: All about balancing hormone balancing tea for women

If you struggle with hormonal imbalance, you are not alone! This is a super important topic to me as someone who has struggled with endometriosis and infertility. Balancing my own hormones has been quite a journey, but I’ve learned so much along the way.

Hormone balance tea has been a super helpful tool in my wellness journey. I used our Farmer’s Wife raspberry tea to try and help stimulate lactation when we adopted our youngest daughter as an infant. This was actually the first tea that I blended, fun fact!

Hormonal health is so important to our overall health and keeps us off the emotional roller coaster. After all, chocolate can only do so much.

Did you know that hormone balancing tea can support your hormone health in many different stages of your life? You can use herbs for PMS relief, fertility support, and postpartum recovery too. In this guide, we’ll introduce you to all the amazing benefits of hormone balance tea and share some delicious DIY recipes that you can make at home to keep your hormones in check.

Understanding Hormonal Imbalance and Its Causes

Hormonal imbalance means you have too much or too little of one or more hormones in your bloodstream. Think testosterone or estrogen, as examples. Our hormones are like messengers in our bodies and are responsible for many important functions, including growth, reproduction, metabolism, and mood.

When there’s an imbalance in our hormones, even a slight one, this can take a physical, mental, and even emotional toll on us. Some of the most common symptoms of hormonal imbalance include mood swings, fatigue, anxiety, depression, weight gain or weight loss, and irregular periods.

There are a number of factors that can cause hormonal imbalance. Two that can have the biggest impact on us are ones that we have control over: lifestyle and diet. Experiencing high levels of stress, lacking the proper nutrition your body needs, or not getting enough exercise or sleep (as you can imagine!) can all negatively affect your hormones. The stress hormone, cortisol, wreaks havoc on our bodies and our adrenals.

Certain medical conditions like Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) can also contribute to hormonal imbalance. PCOS is a common hormonal condition that affects an estimated 6-13% of reproductive-aged women (Source). The symptoms of PCOS are similar to those of hormone imbalances in general, but with PCOS, it can also be difficult to conceive and bear children due to inconsistent ovulation. Making sure our metabolic health and blood glucose levels are in order are super helpful here.

What is Hormone Balance Tea and Why Do Women Need it?

Hormone balancing tea contains ingredients and natural compounds that help to regulate your hormones. The vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants in these teas can boost your overall health and fight the awful symptoms of imbalances!

With hormone imbalances being so common among women  (nearly 80% of us experience some sort of imbalance in our lifetime!), knowing how to use tea and other practices to take care of our well-being is so important (Source).

How Tea Fits into a Healthy Lifestyle

A reminder that I feel is really important to share: Using herbs and tea for cramps and PMS relief is a great step in taking care of your hormonal health, but we can’t forget about the power of living an intentional lifestyle too! A great herbal tea is part of that for sure, but not the whole thing.

In addition to drinking tea, some other practices that bring balance into my life are walking, stretching, spending time in God's creation, and Christian meditation. All of these practices are useful for reducing stress levels, which is super important not just for any mama’s hormone health, but for health in general!

Since lifestyle can play such a large role in hormonal health, I also highly recommend eating with the seasons and focusing on whole foods. Home-grown produce from our garden is my favorite thing to eat in the summer and pasture or grass-fed meats in the winter because it helps nourish my body while embracing what God has provided for our family during each season.

Benefits of Drinking Hormone Balance Tea

Incorporating tea into your health routine has so many benefits! Drinking tea for hormone balance in particular can help you throughout different stages of your life. Here are some of our favorite options for hormone health:

PMS support

Chasteberry tea is often thought of as the best tea for cramps and PMS symptoms. It helps regulate hormones and has anti-inflammatory properties that can help reduce pain.

Ginger tea is another great option with similar anti-inflammatory benefits. Ginger is also known as an anodyne herb. An anodyne means that it can help with pain reduction.

Fertility support

Raspberry leaf tea may help with fertility by regulating estrogen and progesterone. This has the possibility to lead to more regular ovulation, which can ultimately increase the likelihood of conceiving. Raspberry leaf is also packed full of nutrition that benefits the body in many different ways.

Postpartum recovery

Red clover tea can help reduce postpartum blues by balancing the hormones that boost your mood. The vitamins and minerals found in red clover are also thought to help restore important nutrients that have been lowered by pregnancy and lactation.

We also recommend chamomile tea for postpartum recovery because of how soothing it is!

Menopause relief

Licorice root and fennel are some of the best herbs for menopause tea. Menopause is often a season of tough changes for women, and having the right tea to nourish and calm yourself can make such a difference.

Other popular herbs for menopause relief include chamomile, lemon balm, and peppermint.

DIY Hormone Balancing Tea Recipe

Now that you know the benefits of balancing your hormones with tea, it’s time to get brewing!  One of my favorite things about using tea as a natural remedy is that it is so easy to make. It only takes a few minutes to turn your loose-leaf ingredients into the perfect cuppa.

Once you have the right tools, you can brew tea for cramps and PMS relief any time! I usually reach for a Stainless Steel French Press or our Stainless Steel Strainer to brew my simple hormone balancing teas. No microplastics for me, thank you!

  1. Start by steeping 1 tsp of dried chasteberries in boiling water for 10 minutes.

  3. To enhance the flavor of your chasteberry tea, you can add a natural sweetener like honey.

Raspberry leaf tea for fertility support

  1. Add 1 tsp of cut and sifted, dried raspberry leaves into boiling water and steep for 5-10 minutes.
  2. Strain the tea and remove the solids.
